FAQ

1.What are the features of OLED lighting?

Answer: OLED is authentic planar light source. Different from point light source of tungsten lamp and OLED and linear light source of fluorescent lamp, OLED light has the natural advantage of even distribution and softness.OLED only requires a low voltage DC of 3-12V to drive. Not containing any poisonous or harmfulsubstance (such as mercury) and without ultraviolet or infrared radiation,it’s efficient, energy-saving, environmental and safe. With an overall thickness of within 2mm,OLED light source is light, thin and transparent. In all-solid-state, it resists crush and shake.Witha work temperature ranging from -40 to 80℃ and theoretical life of above 50,000 hours, it can be applied to many fields that traditional light sources can’t be applied to.Without glare or flash,OLED has even and soft light which is perfect for eye protection.OLED can realize dual-side emitting and has various choices of luminescent colors. The flexibility of OLED allows it to be made into flexible light source in any shape, whichmakes the lighting products more romantic.Compared to other light sources, the manufacturing process of OLED is easier. A large size of OLED light sources can be producedeven through methods like ink-jet printing and screen printing.

2. Which fields can OLED lighting be applied to?

Answer: Due to its unique characteristic of 2D planar light source and new features of transparency,dual-side emitting and flexibility, OLED light source varies from traditional light source. It opens an era of brand-new lighting design, brings infinite innovation possibility and makes new lighting applications (such as lighting wall, lighting glass window, lighting curtain, etc) possible.Light, thin and all-solid, OLED lighting can be applied to indoor and outdoor lighting, carrying tool (such as car, boat, plane, etc) lighting and light signal indication as well as providing standard and background light source for various measurement equipments (e.g., microscope). The long-term objective of OLED lighting development is to enter the widest field of general lighting application in order to provide high quality lighting for worldwide families and public places (such as school, hospital, shopping mall, etc).

3. Currently, what are the application fields for OLED lighting?

Answer: By utilizing its planar and ultra-thin feature different from traditional light source, OLED lighting is mainly applied to manufacturing of indoor artistic lighting fittings and artistic decorative lighting in first-class places. Different manufacturers successively introduce OLED lamps of different shapes, which provide enlightenment for subsequent scale application of OLED lighting.

4. Why is OLED lighting called the new generation of environmental lighting?

Answer: Seen from the development of mainstream lighting technology, there are incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp and semi-conductor lighting lamp (including LED and OLED).With the full spectrum feature similar to sunlight, incandescent lamp has a color rendering index of 100 and can provide the most real light. However, it has a disadvantage of low luminous efficiency. Under the background that lighting energy takes up about 18% of global energy consumption, incandescent lamp wastes a lot of energy. In addition, incandescent lamp has a relatively short life, so frequent lamp exchange will also consume the overall resource.Fluorescent lamp largely improves luminous efficiency and saves energy, so it’s the most popular light source at present. However, it has a disadvantage of containing the poisonous substance of mercury. If there’s no corresponding recycling system in the future, it will heavily pollute the environment. Besides, if mercury in abandoned fluorescent lamp goes into surface water, it’s easy to change to hypertonic methyl mercury. Once methyl mercury enters biological chain (e.g., absorbed by fish), it will bring severe ecological damage.Due to the features of high efficiency, long life, free of mercury, without ultraviolet or infrared radiation, LED becomes new generation of prosperous light source. Based on its point light source feature, a large number of combinations are required in many applications, which increases the system complexity and reduces the luminous efficiency of the overall system.Besides the advantages similar to LED, OLED, as a kind of surface light source, also boasts some unique advantages such as even and soft light with no need of using diffused reflection or subdued light to reduce glare in lamp preparation, thus maximizing the simplification of the overall lamp system, guaranteeing high efficiency of lamps and reducing the energy consumption of the overall lighting system.Currently, OLED shows its strong advantages in various well-known lighting technologies. Along with the continuous development and improvement of modern technology, OLED will be bound to become a new milestone in the lighting field.

5. Is it possible for OLED lighting to replace LED lighting in the future?

Answer: Currently, LED has developed into the 3rd generation of light source after the filament lamp and florescent lamp. OLED lighting and LED lighting fall within the field of green semiconductor lighting technology, and they feature high efficiency, long lifetime and environmental protection without toxicity like mercury or any UV or IR radiation. At present, it is commonly believed that the development in OLED lighting technology is about 2 years later than in LED lighting technology. From the perspective of product features and current technical levels, we believe, in the long term, OLED lighting will be a useful supplement to LED lighting. LED lays emphasis on point light source while OLED focuses on surface light source, thus helping promote their wide applications in different fields. From the perspective of light source characteristics, OLED and LED belong to the category of semiconductor lighting with similar electrical characteristics, so OLED can be used with LED in the lighting design to form a colorful world. Some rare elements (indium and gallium among others) must be used in LED preparation, but OLED is not subject to raw materials. In view of this, we believe OLED will be widely used all over the world in the future.
